Botteganove Clinker Tile

The ‘Clinker’ by Botteganove is a particularly resistant historic clay with a typical vitrified appearance in its surface. It is produced by firing it at very high temperatures. This tiling material has been used since the end of the Second World War by Caccia Dominioni, Gardella, Ponti, Albini (and others) in many of the symbolic buildings of Milan in the Fifties. The clinker, according to the designers who highlighted its qualities, was supposed to be a kind of translucent and colourful texture covering the skeleton of the building. From this architectural reference starts the inspiration for the collection clinker of Botteganove: from the hexagonal mosaic bricks, made in black clay, with high mechanic features and a vitrified surface. The bricks have different nuances around the hues of teal and green. Different firing temperatures intervene in the vitrification of the glazes thus creating hues and colours with different nuances.
